Guatemala es particularmente rica en especies de orquídeas y varias de ellas son endémicas. Entre las más conocidas figuran las “monjas” con el nombre científico de Lycaste skinneri y la más destacada es la variedad alba, comúnmente conocida como Monja Blanca. Esta flor siempre ha sido muy rara y su hábitat natural eran los bosques de Alta y Baja Verapaz. Lamentablemente, estos bosques no existen mas y se cree que la Monja Blanca se ha extinguido en la naturaleza.

Guatemala is particularly rich in species of orchids and several of them are endemic. Among the best known include "sisters" by the scientific name lycaste skinneri and most prominent is the variety alba, commonly known as Monja Blanca. This flower has always been very rare and their natural habitats were the forests of Alta and Baja Verapaz. Unfortunately, these forests no longer exist and the Monja Blanca is believed to be extinct in the wild.

 In February each year there is an exhibit of orchids held by the Orchid Society of Guatemala (AGO). I take a lot of pictures and paint them at my studio.
